Summary:
Responsible for the technical development of new packages, packing processes and improvements to the existing pharmaceutical packaging process.
Functions:
- Designs, develops and ensures implementation of packages for new products.
- Designs, develops and ensures implementation of revision to existing products.
- Conducts broad research and development of new packaging materials including investigations as to stability/protection potentials and FDA requirements.
- Writes test procedures, packaging equipment specifications, protocols & SOP’s.
- Performs line trials and troubleshooting.
- Works with packaging equipment vendors.
- Handles complex package problems of existing products.
- Leads new packaging technology and product transfers.
- Recommends and assists marketing in the evaluation of new packaging designs.
- Prepares proofs, makes up samples and approves all necessary mechanical specifications and bill of material.
- Initiates appropriate packaging stability programs.
- Monitors customers' complaints when they apply to packaging.
- Evaluates new packaging materials and technology.
- Establishes and audits quality standards such as cap torque, seal integrity, etc.
- Leads initiatives to improve production and paperwork flow.
- Coordinates and directs activities of contract packages and suppliers,in conjunction with purchasing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement:
- Bachelors Degree in Packaging or Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering combined with other.
- Technical/ Academic training in Packaging and appropriate experience.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of related packaging experience.
Experience Requirement:
- Strong analytical and technical skills
- Proficient in technical writing skills
- Computer Literate
- Strong knowledge of Packaging process and equipment
- Project Management experience
- Strong knowledge of cGMP
- Strong knowledge of RFT tools (Green Belt or Black Belt)
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish
